Guardianship for Adults & Minor Children

There are many steps needed to establish a guardianship of either the person or the property, including obtaining medical evaluations to determine the individual’s capacity and the need for guardianship and attending various court hearings. Establishing a guardianship can ensure that your loved ones receive the care and support they need, particularly in situations involving aging parents, individuals with disabilities, or those facing medical challenges. It provides peace of mind that their affairs will be managed competently and compassionately.

AREAS WE PROVIDE GUIDANCE IN:

  • Guardianship
    • When your loved one is unable to make sound decisions or to care for themselves due to disability, illness or age, it may be necessary to ask a Court to appoint a Guardian to make decisions on their behalf. This process is crucial for protecting the welfare and interests of those who cannot manage their own affairs. There are two types of guardianships in Maryland.
  • Guardianship of the Person
    • This type grants the guardian authority over the personal care and well-being of your loved one. Responsibilities may include making decisions about medical care, living arrangements, and educational needs.
  • Guardianship of the Property
    • This focuses on managing the financial affairs of your loved one. The guardian is responsible for handling assets, managing income, paying bills, and ensuring that the individual’s financial resources are appropriately managed.

Navigating the guardianship process can be complex and emotionally challenging. Our experienced legal team is here to guide you through every step, ensuring that the best interests of your loved ones are protected.
